FAQ

Why are updates so slow?

1: I'm kind of lazy.
2: I focus more on something else (e.g. some of my other software projects)
3: I suspect that I have some form of perfectionist OCD that makes drawing much harder than it needs to be.

What age range is this comic intended for?

Personally, I say it's 16+. No heavily adult themes, but definitely NOT something little Timmy should be seeing on his spyphone.

Why is the site so basic?

I designed the LUDICRITAL website with minimalism in mind, after my main philosophies. Yes, I want the site to look nice, but I don't want to bloat the site up, e.g. with JavaScript, excessive amounts of images, or fancy page decor.

If you're wondering how the site even works, the comic viewer pages are statically generated, removing the need for the JavaScript I previously used for it. The Booklist was originally made to alleviate some of these issues, but ever since I got rid of the JS in the site, it's more or less used as a sitemap, so I don't have to redundantly list links.

Why are you ignoring me?

If you're trying to get to me through Neocities comments or whatever other form of messaging the site providers may have, you're probably not gonna be seen. I hardly check such comments, so the best way to contact me is at my email, doughnutsblitz@disroot.org.

How do I use RSS feeds?

RSS feeds are basically news feeds embedded as an XML file. To view and keep track on RSS feeds like the LUDICRITAL one, I recommend using Newsboat for GNU/Linux and *nix users, and QuiteRSS for Windows users. Check your feeds occasionally to keep up to date with new events or updates!

What if the comic bombs or you lose interest?

I don't see my interest straight-up dying for LUDICRITAL, but if the comic doesn't do well, what about the story? LUDICRITAL as a WHOLE is in the public domain, as mentioned before, meaning that if you don't like the webcomic, you may fancy the story, or the characters, or the world it takes place in, or perhaps the very idea of it as a whole.

With this in mind, if you want to make fanart, an AU, a retelling of the story, an adaptation, whatever, go ahead. I'll be happy to see it!

What sex / gender are the characters?

That's for you to decide.

What was your inspiration for this?

The story's inspiration goes to Sparklecare Hospital, being in a shitty torturous hospital and all. Biggest difference being that in LUDICRITAL, the horror is moreso psychological; not necessarily real. I owe a good bit to it, but I'm trying my best to stray away from it for libre reasons. Speaking of libre, the reason why LUDICRITAL is free culture in the first place is because of one fine anarcho-pacifist fellow and his game, Anarch. If I didn't find his creation and get pushed by it into a decent direction, I don't know how this comic would've turned out, considering there's not too many free culture webcomics out there nowadays.

How long is the comic supposed to go on for?

Knowing the limits of a solo project, LUDICRITAL is meant to span out 3 acts: Irregular Regularities, Hypertensive Familiarities, and Bye Bye Hellhole. You can read more about them in the source repository, should you not mind spoilers.

Does this site use JavaScript?

No. It used to, but I made a script to make static pages for reading comic pages to replace the JavaScript comic reader. As for why I don't it's a bloated technology that leads to bloated browsers, and also it eats up resources.

Is this a realistic depiction of a medical facility?

Nope.

Didn't you specify what the "potentially disturbing content" is before?

Yes, actually. I removed the clarification because it leaves it up to the reader's imagination to imagine what material is present, which may be more frightening, and it also lessens the woke-ness of the disclaimer. I'm not listing out traumas here, I'm making a damn story.

Does this website have a banner/button?

Yes.

What the hell is going on?

I ask the same thing at an alarming consitency. The plot involves a mysterious hospital that drives inpatients and others within insane from various means, some potentially supernatural. The main focus is on the events that occur within, with Lukifer Dredd trying to figure out what exactly goes on behind these closed doors as he simultaneously attempts to resolve any complications and conflicts that come and go, no matter how drastic the measures get.

The webcomic itself is a political commentary on worker's mental health, the struggles that those with Asperger's and autism face in workplaces, and the consequences of having a generally hostile environment as seen in most workplaces foster in the first place. It's also both an art exercise and a means for me to vent my frustrations with institutions like schools.

The reason why it's a free culture comic with an actual focus on rights and mental health instead of being yet another pseudoleftist shill comic made by some Tumblr girl with dyed hair is in part of the author's personal beliefs developed from both aforementioned frustrations and some education on how the world as it is now is run terribly along with a solution, and to contribute to free culture and give people ethical, completely free (as in freedom) media to enjoy selflessly.

What do you use to make this?

For an operating system, I am ashamed to admit I began development of LUDICRITAL on Window$ 10. However, somewhere in 2023 I switched to using Linux Mint, then to Devuan GNU/Linux in 2024, then to Trisquel GNU/Linux in 2025. Software used is as follows:

Are there secrets in the website?

Ah, a fellow secret hunter! Try hovering over certain parts of paragraphs for flavor text. If you're lazy, you may also check the source repository and find them that way. While the comic pages won't have flavor text, you may still be able to find some funny things within.
