FAQ

Why are updates so slow?

1: I'm kind of lazy.
2: I focus more on something else (e.g. some of my other software projects)
3: I suspect that I have some form of perfectionist OCD that makes drawing and filling a living hell for me.
Also, the little "last update" thing only counts major updates like new pages or outright overhauls. Bleeding-edge changes can be monitored at the source repository.

What age range is this comic intended for?

Personally, I say it's 16+. No heavily adult themes, but definitely NOT something little Timmy should be seeing on his spyphone.

Why is the site so basic? Why do you offer weird ways to read?

I designed the LUDICRITAL website with minimalism in mind, after my main philosophies. Yes, I want the site to look nice, but I don't use anything unnecessary or invasive, e.g. requirements of JavaScript, excessive amounts of images, or fancy page decor.

As for the odd reading method, I present the comic in this way so that those with older or incapable web browsers / systems can enjoy LUDICRITAL, and if you're using a system with wget (preferably GNU/Linux or any other free OS), it makes it so that you can easily download the comic for reading or sharing. I still offer the JavaScript comic reader as I understand that it can be easier to read that way.

How do I use RSS feeds?

RSS feeds are basically news feeds embedded as an XML file. To view and keep track on RSS feeds like the LUDICRITAL one, I recommend using Newsboat for GNU/Linux and *nix users, and QuiteRSS for Windows users. Check your feeds occasionally to keep up to date with new events or updates!

What if the comic bombs or you lose interest?

I don't see my interest straight-up dying for LUDICRITAL, but as for if the comic bombs, what about the story? LUDICRITAL as a WHOLE is in the public domain, as mentioned before, meaning that if you don't like the webcomic, you may fancy the story, or the characters, or the world it takes place in, or perhaps the very idea of it as a whole.

With this in mind, if you want to make fanart, an AU, a retelling of the story, an adaptation, whatever, go ahead. I'll be happy to see it!

What gender are the characters?

That's for you to decide.

How long is the comic supposed to go on for?

Knowing the limits of a solo project, LUDICRITAL is meant to span out 3 acts: Irregular Regularities, Hypertensive Familiarities, and Bye Bye Hellhole. You can read more about them in the source repository.

Most people use JS. Why have support for non-JavaScript users?

Yes, most people do use JavaScript. However, I'm not just accomodating for the majority, but also the minority. The dozens, if not few, people who use simple, minimal software or don't want to use JavaScript for personal or safety reasons. Also considering my own nature, I see it fit to allow LUDICRITAL to reach these people.

Does this website run libre JS?

Yes, yes it does. The source for the JavaScript is available in the source repositories for the webcomic, and is under the same license as the webcomic as well.

Is this a realistic depiction of a medical facility?

Nope.

Didn't you specify what the "potentially disturbing content" is before?

Yes, actually. I removed the clarification because it leaves it up to the reader's imagination to imagine what material is present, which may be more frightening, and it also lessens the woke-ness of the disclaimer. I'm not listing out traumas here, I'm making a damn story.

What the hell is going on?

I ask the same thing at an alarming consitency. The plot involves a mysterious hospital that drives inpatients and others within insane from various means, some potentially supernatural. The main focus is on the events that occur within, with Lukifer Dredd trying to figure out what exactly goes on behind these closed doors as he simultaneously attempts to resolve any complications and conflicts that come and go, no matter how drastic the measures get.

The webcomic itself is made as both a political commentary on workers' mental health, struggles that those with aspergers or autism face, and to demonstrate the general ill effects of letting such environments foster in the first place, as well as a way for its author to vent his frustrations with such places, particularly schools.

The reason why it's a free culture comic instead of being yet another neurodivergent shill comic made by some Tumblr girl with dyed hair is in part of the author's personal beliefs, developed from both aforementioned frustrations and basic education on how you're actually supposed to run a society, for contributing to free culture, and to give people completely free content to enjoy selflessly.

What do you use to make this?

For an operating system, I am ashamed to admit I began development of LUDICRITAL on Window$ 10. However, somewhere in 2023 I switched to using Linux Mint, and in 2024 I switched to Devuan GNU/Linux. Software used is as follows:

Are there secrets in the website?

Ah, a fellow secret hunter! Try hovering over certain parts of paragraphs for flavor text. If you're lazy, you may also check the source repository and find them that way. While the comic pages won't have flavor text, you may still be able to find some funny things within.
